Lt. Cmdr. Matthew K. Creelman of the U.S. Coast Guard has been named the commanding officer of the new buoy tender Maple that is scheduled to arrive in Sitka in September.

Amelia Rivera of Juneau has been named to the dean's list at Fort Lewis College for the winter 2000 trimester. She is majoring in anthropology.

Marine Corps. Lance Cpl. Russell G. Shivers, a 1998 graduate of Juneau-Douglas High School, recently returned from a six-month deployment to the Mediterranean Sea and Arabian Gulf, carrying out assignments in the Middle East and Europe.

Chelsea A. Cleghon of Wrangell has been named to the Dean's Honor Roll at Eastern New Mexico University in Portales, N.M., for the 2000 fall semester. She is majoring in elementary education.

Breea L. DeSloover and Megan L. Baylous were named to the Dean's List at Pacific Lutheran University in Tacoma, Wash., for the fall 2000 semester.

Tristan McAllister of Juneau was named to the honors list at Stevenson School in Pebble Beach, Calif., for the fall term.

Katherine Rue of Juneau, a sophomore at Dartmouth College in Hanover, N.H., is studying German in Berlin, Germany, this winter as part of the college's foreign study program.

Juneau residents Jeanette Gardiner, Gabriel Laramie, Jamie Matheson, Tanna Peters, Kimberly Race and Jaimee Schmitz were named to the Dean's Honor List at Eastern Washington University in Cheney, Wash., for the fall 2000 quarter. Also named to the list were Cassie Hebel of Ketchikan and Lisa Nikodym of Wrangell.

Tammy Davis, Mary Patz and Tyler Thomas, all of Juneau, were named to the honor roll at Montana State University-Bozeman for the fall 2000 semester. Also named to the list was David Owens of Hoonah.

Greta Gard of Juneau graduated at the top of her class from Vermont Law School with a master's degree in environmental law.

Justin L. Santos, a student at JDHS, recently joined the Navy for training in the Aviation Machinist's Mate Program. He joined the delay entry program and will report for duty in July, attending basic training at the Recruit Training Center in Great Lakes, Ill.

Michelle Moffitt has been awarded a $1,000 President's Scholarship for the 2001-2002 academic year at Western Washington University in Bellingham, Wash. The scholarship is based on superior academic ability.

Wesley Brooks of Juneau is among the 20 students nominated by U.S. Sen. Frank Murkowski to attend the U.S. Air Force Academy in Colorado Springs, Colo. At least two nominees will receive an appointment to the school.

Andrea Lynn Watts has been named to the Dean's List at the University of Montana in Missoula, Mont., for the 2000 autumn semester.
