Eaglecrest hoping for more fluffy stuff

JUNEAU - Eaglecrest Ski Area was expecting 4 inches of snow overnight, but received only 3 at the lodge.

"It's still coming down," Eaglecrest Business Manager Gary Mendivil said at 10:30 a.m. today, "so we are keeping our fingers crossed."

The 3 inches fell at the lodge, Mendivil said. The temperature there this morning was 28 degrees, which precluded making snow, because that process requires a temperature of 26 degrees and low humidity, he said. He hoped conditions would be right for snow-making by Thursday, when current weather conditions are predicted to break.
