Nordic ski clinics planned

JUNEAU - The Juneau Nordic Ski Club is sponsoring a series of classes in skate and classic ski techniques Feb. 22-24 at Eaglecrest. The instructor is Adam Verrier from Anchorage, a world-class skier who was on the U.S. 1998 Olympic team in Nagano as a member of the men's relay team.

He has taught a variety of classes and clinics over the past several years and is coaching junior Nordic skiers in Anchorage.

Classes details are:

• Feb. 22: 8:30 a.m., beginning skate; 10:30 a.m., advanced skate; 1 p.m., beginning classic; 3 p.m., advanced classic.

• Feb. 23: 8:30 a.m., beginning classic; 10:30 a.m. advanced classic; 1 p.m., beginning skate; 3 p.m., advanced skate.

• Feb. 24: 8:30 a.m., beginning skate; 10:30 a.m., advanced skate; 1 p.m., beginning classic; 3 p.m., advanced classic.

Classes last one hour, 45 minutes, and cost $20 each. To sign up, call or visit the Eaglecrest Ski School, 790-2001, or 586-5284. Payment is required to reserve a space in the class. The ski school accepts Visa or Mastercard over the phone.

Nordic ski club members get the first shot at registration through Friday. Starting Saturday, others can reserve space.

Verrier also will hold a free waxing clinic at a time and place to be announced. The first half of the clinic will cover basic waxing for both glide and kick, while the second half will cover more advanced techniques.
