Longtime Juneau resident Edward "Larry" Kilgore died Friday, Jan. 31, 2003 at his home surrounded by family and friends.
He was born March 10, 1957 in Camp Pendleton, Calif. and was raised in Salem, Ore. His family said that his love for the outdoors, fishing and boating brought him and two of his friends to Alaska, where he made his home in April of 1984 in Juneau. He was an avid Mariner's fan, and was employed as a lead ramp agent with Alaska Airlines the past 18 years. His hobbies included photography, refurbishing antique furniture, and collecting antique woodworking tools.
His family said his passion for life was expressed through his love of music, dancing and spending time with his family and many friends.
He is survived by his longtime companion Alicia Foss; daughter Chelsea Kilgore; son Rick Huteson; parents Lon and Myrna of Salem, Ore.; brother Jeff of Juneau; sisters Terese Gillespie and Cindy Chambers of Salem, Ore.; and numerous aunts, uncles, cousins, nephews and nieces from the lower 48.
At Larry's request, his cremains will be scattered over Hanus Reef and Lizard Head. A celebration of life will follow, the date has been set for May 17, 2003. All friends and family are welcome. In lieu of flowers, the family requests contributions be made to the Alaska Airlines Employees Emergency Assistance Fund in memory of Larry Kilgore, addressed to Toma Alario c/o Alaska Airlines, 1873 Shell Simmons Dr., Juneau, AK 99801.
