PALMER - A 16-year-old Palmer boy died Wednesday evening after he was shot by a friend who has handling a large-caliber handgun, apparently in an accident, police said.
The victim was killed by a single gunshot wound to his right shoulder, said Palmer Police Chief Russ Boatright.
The two teens had been friends for years, Boatright said.
It was the shooter, hysterical, who called 911 at 7:10 p.m. from his family's home, where the shooting occurred. His parents and sister were home at the time, Boatright said.
Investigators said at this point they have no indication the shooting was anything but accidental.
