The Mount Edgecumbe High School girls basketball team handed visiting Wrangell its first loss of the season on Saturday in Class 3A, winning 43-39.

The Braves' Victoria Lopez led her team with 17 points. Lori Anne Wallace had seven points while Florence Nulausuk, Andrea Thomas and Tricia Ivanoff tallied four points each.
Sasha Akaran had three points while Heather Weber and Tasha Redfox scored two points each.
Michelle Villarma had 17 points and Courtney McCay added 11 points for the Wolves. Britany Lindley had five points, Dawson Fairbanks scored two points and Jessica Blunt had two points and a team-high seven boards in defeat.
The Wolves opened the two-game series with a 52-43 win Friday.

McCay had 15 points and six rebounds, Blunt added eight points and Lindley scored six points and grabbed six boards for Wrangell (9-1).
The Braves received 16 points from Lopez in the win. Wallace had six points, Thomas scored 10 points and Ivanoff added six points for Mt. Edgecumbe.
