The Pinewood Derby is a highlight of the Cub Scout year, where boys race wooden cars that they have cut, carved, whittled and painted themselves with some help from their parents. Everyone starts with the same block of wood and four wheels, and the creative juices run wild.

Everything in Cub Scouting is designed to have the boys doing things. Activities are used to achieve the aims of Scouting-citizenship training, character development, and personal fitness. Many of the activities happen right in the den and pack. The most important are the weekly den meetings and the monthly pack meetings. Cub scouting is open to all boys age 6 to 10, and there are packs that meet all over town.
