ANCHORAGE - Police say a man was drunk last weekend when he ran a red light and caused a crash that killed a cabbie in Anchorage.

According to a police report, 39-year-old Lawrence A. Brewer had a blood-alcohol level more than twice the legal limit and told a doctor at Alaska Regional Hospital that he had also recently used cocaine.

Brewer allegedly ran a red light and plowed into a taxi driven by Dale Polkarney on Jan. 30. An officer reported that afterwards, Brewer said he had too much to drink and shouldn't have been driving.
