DENVER — A Colorado group says it canceled a fundraising appearance by former vice presidential candidate Sarah Palin because of safety concerns, but specifics about the event and the sponsor are elusive.
The Sharon K. Pacheco Foundation announced on its Facebook page Saturday that the May 2 appearance was off.
It cited personal attacks against Palin and “an onslaught of negative rhetoric.” It also cited the Jan. 8 shootings in Phoenix that killed six and injured 13, including Arizona congresswoman Gabrielle Giffords.
Phone messages left at the foundation weren’t immediately returned Sunday. Its website was not functioning.
The foundation didn’t appear to be registered with the Colorado secretary of state.
A spokesman for Palin referred calls to the Washington Speakers Bureau. The bureau was closed Sunday and a message wasn’t immediately returned.
