Wrong message sent to capital movers

According to the Juneau Empire's front-page story about the Alaska Committee (Jan. 26), our mayor and former mayor are unhappy with the volunteer group that has been successful in promoting Juneau as Alaska's capital.

Sound off on the important issues at

Former Mayor Sally Smith said her views are underrepresented and suggests the committee should be cleansed of all of those pesky Republicans. Mayor Bruce Botelho wants to rid the committee of pro-road people. Perhaps he doesn't know that statewide opinion polls tell us that Alaskans want access to their capital.

Smith and Botelho would have our message to the rest of the state sound something like, "Please let us keep the capital in Juneau. In return, we will keep Juneau as inaccessible and Republican-free as possible."

That message would have the capital movers on their knees, begging for mercy.
