Powers wins Southeast Masters tournament

JUNEAU - Kathy Powers captured the fourth annual Allyn Hayes Southeast Masters Tournament on Jan. 28 at the Juneau Bowling Center.
Powers bested 44 others to win the tournament and $1,775 in prize money.
The tournament featured a TV-style format used by the Professional Bowlers Association.
After 12 qualifying game whittled the competitors down to 30 bowlers, the bowlers competed in eight games to determine the top five seeds for the final bowl-off.
Fourth-seeded Allyn Hayes defeated fifth-seeded Pete Bednarowicz in the finals. Hayes then fell to third-seeded Kyle Lanz before Powers knocked off the tourney's third seed.
In the final, Powers upset top-seeded Stan Stauffer 186-174.
In the scratch competition, Bednarowicz won the title and $375 by defeating Carmine DiCostanzo.
