I've heard these phrases thrown around when hearing news about health care reform: how it will not save money, and covering others will inevitably cost more than it's worth.
I'll leave aside the sickness of putting a price tag on saving someone's life; instead, I'd like to ask this question: What about ensuring America is the leader in technology, learning and industry? Can we remain a global leader without investing in the infrastructure and education required for tomorrow?
You can't get something for nothing. If we, as a country, expect to remain the global leader, we must be prepared to invest in maintaining that leadership.
In his State of the Union address, President Obama outlined a plan to do just that. There are many details to be ironed out, but I would ask that we all realize that we must do something to keep our place in today's world. We always brag that America is the best. Let's put our money where our mouth is.
