JUNEAU — Alaska Gov. Sean Parnell has joined with nearly all the nation’s Republican governors in seeking to get lawsuits over the federal health care overhaul to the U.S. Supreme Court as quickly as possible.
Twenty-eight Republican governors have asked President Barack Obama to direct the U.S. Justice Department to support an expedited appellate process for pending lawsuits.
Last week, a federal judge in Florida struck down the overhaul as unconstitutional in a lawsuit joined by 26 states, including Alaska. Other federal judges have upheld the law, and another judge ruled an insurance mandate unconstitutional but did not strike down the rest of the law.
Oklahoma Gov. Mary Fallin was the only GOP governor not to sign the letter. Oklahoma recently filed its own lawsuit over the health care law.
