The number of unemployed veterans in the United States ages 20 to 24 dropped significantly last year, according to new data from the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics. The jobless rate for young veterans fell to 10.4 percent in 2006 from 15.6 percent in the previous year, the largest decline in more than a decade and a sign that federal efforts to improve employment security have been effective, says Charles Ciccolella, assistant secretary of labor for Veterans' Employment and Training.
