Discover nature in February at upcoming Discovery Day

Posted: Friday, February 11, 2011

JUNEAU — Youth between the ages of seven and 12 are invited to join Discovery Southeast for the next Discovery Days on Monday, Feb. 21, and on Tuesday, Feb. 22.

Discovery Days are day camps offered throughout the school year when students are out of school during teacher in-service, parent-teacher conferences, holidays and seasonal school breaks.

On Monday participants will explore the Eaglecrest area on snowshoes, and on Tuesday we’ll investigate the backyard of the Mendenhall Glacier Visitor Center. Participants will enjoy nature-inspired activities, hiking, tracking, experiments, games and art. Both days are from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. On Monday, the Eaglecrest ski bus is available for transportation, and on Tuesday kids should be dropped off and picked up at the glacier visitor’s center. Please bring weather-appropriate clothing, snow boots, water, snacks and a lunch. Snowshoes will be provided for kids, and parents are invited to join the hike on Monday afternoon.
