Former Juneau resident Carol Jane Young died peacefully Feb. 10, 2009, in her home in Boise, Idaho. She was 74.
Born Feb. 2, 1935, to Charles and Alma Larson in Bozeman, Mont., she was raised in Anaconda, Mont., where she graduated with honors from Anaconda High School in 1953. She then went on to attend college at Western Montana College on an academic scholarship, graduating with a degree in education in 1958. She married Pat Young on June 9, 1954.
She taught school for 30 years until she retired in 1990. She taught in Sheridan, Mont., the Meridian School District in Idaho and in Juneau.
She and Pat shared many adventures, as she constantly encouraged her husband to reach his maximum potential for the good of the family. She was a loving wife, mother and grandmother, her family said.
Family was very important to her, they added. She enjoyed reading, quilting, gardening and spending time with her grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her mother and father; nephew, Bruce Browning; sister, Marybeth Browning; grandson, Ostin Kvaalen; and granddaughter, Olivia Kvaalen.
She is survived by her husband of 54 years; brothers, Charles Larson, of Vancouver, Wash., and Rick Larson, of Butte, Mont.; sisters, Margo Smith, of Anaconda, Mont., and Sally Larson of Pasadena, Calif.; oldest son, Greg Young, his son, Chase, Greg's wife, Cristy, and their children, Chandler, Cortland and Caden, of Boise; middle child, David Young and wife, Valerie, and their children, Morgan and Fischer, of Poulsbo, Wash.; and daughter, Amy Kvaalen and husband, Jon, and their child, Lars, of Lambert, Mont.
Her memorial service will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 14, at King of Glory Lutheran Church in Boise.
