Juneau-Douglas High School girls basketball -- The Crimson Bears host the Colony Knights for a pair of non-conference homecoming games, with the varsity game starting at 6 p.m. at the JDHS main gym.

Juneau Alpine Club -- This week's trek is an Eagle Glacier Cabin and Yankee Basin climb/ski lasting one to three days. The trip features a medium-energy output level and has a round-trip distance of 10 miles. Required technical gear includes overnight gear and snowshoes (optional ski/climb). RSVP needed. Sunday, Feb. 17

Southeast Road Runner's club -- Sweetheart's Relay: Runners need to meet at noon at the Douglas Fire Station, with the race starting at 1 p.m. The first leg of the two-person relay is two miles long and the second leg is three miles. The race starts and ends at the Douglas Fire Station. The entry fee is $5 per person for those who preregister at either location of the Juneau Racquet Club, or $8 for day-of-race registration. Eaglecrest Ski Area -- Sunday afternoon Telemark clinics take place from 1-4 p.m. every Sunday during the month of February. The sessions are $30 each and you can attend one or all of the clinics, which are designed for skiers of all abilities. Info: Eaglecrest Ski Area, 789-2001.

Juneau Department of Parks and Recreation adult coed volleyball -- A players' skills clinic takes place on Sunday, Feb. 17 at the Juneau-Douglas High School auxiliary gym. The clinic runs from 1:30-4 p.m. for players from coed divisions 1, 2 and 3-North, with 4-6:30 p.m. for coed divisions 3-South, 4 and 5. The clinic is free to all players in the Juneau Department of Parks and Recreation's adult coed volleyball program. Info: Juneau Department of Parks and Recreation, 586-5226.

Gastineau Channel Little League -- GCLL will hold two forums to go over rule changes prior to the upcoming season. A softball forum took place on Tuesday. A baseball forum will be held at 6:30 p.m. on Wednesday, Feb. 13, at the Dzantik'i Heeni Middle School Library. All managers, coaches, volunteers and parents are encouraged to attend. Raincountry Flyfishers monthly meeting -- Meet at 7 p.m. on Thursday, Feb. 14, at the Floyd Dryden Middle School library. This month's speaker is Tom Morphet, who will discuss federal subsistence management and its impact on sport fishing. Club members may make suggestions for local sport fishing regulation changes. Juneau Nordic Ski Club -- The JNSC and Eaglecrest Ski School will host a series of clinics in the skating (freestyle) and classical (diagonal) styles of Nordic skiing on Friday, Feb. 22, through Sunday, Feb. 24. Adam Verrier of Anchorage, a member of the 1998 U.S. Olympic Nordic Ski Team, will lead the clinics, which will be for skiers of all skill levels. On Friday the clinics include a skating class at 1 p.m. and a classical class at 3 p.m. On Saturday, the clinics are beginning classic at 8:30 a.m., advanced classic at 10:30 a.m., beginning skate at 1 p.m. and advanced skate at 3 p.m. On Sunday, the clinics are beginning skate at 8:30 a.m., advanced skate at 10:30 a.m., beginning classic at 1 p.m. and advanced classic at 3 p.m. Each class will be limited to 10 participants and the cost is $20 per class, with the money going to JNSC and Eaglecrest for expenses (Verrier is donating his time). Help send the state champion Juneau Jaguars to regionals -- The Juneau Soccer Club team for boys ages 12-13 is trying to raise money to represent Alaska at the Far West Regional Soccer Tournament that will be held in June 2002 in Salt Lake City, Utah. The team needs to raise about $15,000 for the tournament, which is a qualifying event for the national championships. Southeast Alaska Avalanche Center workshops -- Avalanche workshops will take place in Juneau, Petersburg, Haines and Ketchikan. Level I backcountry courses are March 1-4 in Juneau and March 15-18 in Haines, with the three-day intensive Level I classes costing $295 ($220 students/low income). Courses for all snow travelers, including snowmachiners, lasting 1 1/2 days take place in Ketchikan on a date TBA. There will also be special classes in Haines on Easter weekend.
