Watson Graybill rides the tracks at Treadwell in 1917, the year of the fateful cave-in that crippled the Treadwell Co. The mine broke mining records and reached capacity in 1915, with more than 2,000 men working above and below ground, producing nearly 5,000 tons of ore daily. The four mines of the Treadwell complex were connected by an extensive rail system, parts of which remain. The mine companies used these tracks to transport ore, goods and supplies to the different sections of the complex.
