Keep homophobic messages to yourself

Posted: Sunday, February 13, 2005

While pulling out of Floyd Dryden Middle School the other morning, I noticed a sign in the back window of a large truck with a crude, profane and homophobic message. Facing such slogans while stuck in Valley morning traffic is discouraging, but as a mother, I am particularly disturbed by how many of these vehicles are carrying children. In this country, parents are free to be as bigoted, petty and crude as they like. They are also free to pass on these traits to their children if they wish. But with freedom comes responsibility.

Out of respect for other children and parents on the road, adults, show enough common decency to keep vile and profane slogans to yourselves.
