JUNEAU - The Alaska Court System will hold a ceremonial commencement ceremony and open house to honor all Juneau Therapeutic Court graduates at 3:30 p.m. today in Courtroom A on the first floor of the Dimond Courthouse. Superior Court Judge Philip Pallenberg will be the keynote speaker, and a letter from Dana Fabe, chief justice of the Alaska Supreme Court, will be presented.
All current and former Therapeutic Court participants and the general public are invited. Representatives of the legislative, judicial, correctional and treatment communities will be in attendance. A reception will follow.
The Juneau Therapeutic Court is a collaborative effort of the Alaska Court System, the Juneau Police Department, the city of Juneau, Rainforest Recovery Center at Bartlett Hospital, Gastineau Human Services and the Juneau chapter of the National Council on Alcoholism and Drug Dependency. It is funded in part by a grant from the Alaska Highway Safety Office. Keith B. Levy presides.
The program began in July 2005 and currently has eleven participants, the majority of them charged with felony driving under the influence.
