Peters appointed to airport board

JUNEAU - The Juneau Assembly appointed former Juneau School Board President Bill Peters to the Juneau International Airport Board on Monday.

Peters was appointed to a three-year term on the seven-member board to fill a vacant seat left empty by the January resignation of board member Fred Gaffney.

After one term on the School Board, Peters decided last fall not to run again. He said he wanted room in his life for other civic organizations. Peters was heavily involved in the campaign to build Thunder Mountain High School.

Peters' application said he was interested in airport facilities improvements that allow better access to Juneau and the surrounding communities.

The board meets the second Wednesday of each month to oversee airport maintenance and operations.
