Fairbanks - The Fairbanks Arts Association's Literary Arts Committee is now accepting entries for their 15th annual statewide poetry contest. The purpose of the contest is to encourage, publicize and reward the writing of high-quality poetry.
There are three entry divisions: adult, high school, and elementary and middle school. Entry fees are $4 per poem for adults and $3 for students. First place prizes in each division are $150, $100 and $50 respectively; cash prizes for second and third places will also be awarded.
All poems must be original and not previously published, and submissions are limited to four poems per author. Entries must be postmarked by Tuesday, Feb. 17, and should be sent with entry fee to the Fairbanks Arts Association, FAA Poetry Contest 2009, P.O. Box 72786, Fairbanks, AK 99707. If hand-delivering an entry, it must be delivered to the arts association by 6 p.m. on Monday, Feb. 23.

The judge for this year's contest is Jill Osler. Osler received her master's in poetry from University of Alaska Fairbanks in 2000, and has been published in numerous literary magazines. She is the recipient of a 2007 NEA Fellowship and is currently the Diane Middlebrook Poetry Fellow at the University of Wisconsin at Madison.
Winners will be announced at 2 p.m. on March 21 at the Fairbanks Arts Association's Bear Gallery.
