Juneau - A panel presentation and public forum titled "Can Development of the Pebble Mine and Salmon Resources Co-Exist in the Bristol Bay Watershed?" will be held from 5 to 7 p.m. Monday, Feb 16, at the Back Room at the Silverbow.

The forum will involve a panel of Bristol Bay residents and technical experts as well as members of the public, focusing on plans for the proposed Pebble Mine at the headwaters of Bristol Bay. Some of the topics to be discussed include the technical and environmental risks associated with the mine, its effect on resources, the pros and cons for surrounding communities, and the permits and regulatory oversight required for such a project.

A brief reception and screening of the Bristol Bay documentary "Red Gold," hosted by Rep. Bryce Edgmon, will follow.

The event is sponsored by Nunamta Aulukestai (Caretakers of Our Lands), University of Alaska Southeast's Environmental Science Club and Trout Unlimited Alaska.
