ANCHORAGE - A Russian Mission man has pleaded no contest to animal cruelty.

The Anchorage Daily News reports 20-year-old Carl Vaska was charged with stabbing four chained sled dogs, killing two.

According to an affidavit filed by wildlife trooper Dan Dahl, authorities allege he was drinking home brew when he stabbed the dogs as they were chained in a yard.

He will be sentenced Feb. 25.

The sale and importation of alcohol are banned in Russian Mission, a village of about 300 people 70 miles northeast of Bethel.
