• JDHS boys basketball hosts Sitka - Both varsity contests tip off at 8 p.m.

Feb. 13-14

• Middle school wrestling - Floyd Dryden Middle School hosts the Southeast Middle School Championships at the FDMS gym. Nine local teams will be competing, beginning today at 4 p.m. The action will begin again at 10 a.m. on Saturday.

Saturday, Feb. 14

• Gastineau Channel Little League registration - Volunteers will be at the Nugget Mall to register kids aged 5-16 from noon to 4 p.m. Online registration is available at Space is limited, and early registration is encouraged.

Feb. 13 & 14

• Jambaars Soccer Camp - Jambaars Youth Soccer Academy is hosting a President's Day soccer camp February 16, 2009 from 9 a.m. - 5 p.m. at Dzantik'i Heeni Middle School gymnasium. Open to Elementary and Middle School Players U8 - U15. Camp is coached by Moctar Diouf and will provide for conditioning, fundamental/advanced skills building, and lots of scrimmage. Players must bring LUNCH, OUTDOOR Soccer Ball, Shin Guards, Indoor Shoes, and Water. Mail in or On Site registration available. Feb. 23-March 7

• Soccer referee course - USSF referee certification for new referees with soccer knowledge, and recertification for referee's certified in 2007 or 2008 will be offered in six sessions at the Mendenhall Library beginning Feb. 23 from 6-9 p.m. Additional sessions: Feb. 25, 26, 28, Mar. 4 and 7. • Learn to fly fish - Learn fly casting, how to tie a very effective fly for Juneau, and where and when to fish roadside waters. Flyfishers 101 will be held both evenings in Floyd Dryden Middle School's library and gym. Free evaluation of equipment by instructor Tony Soltys. Call Community Schools at 780-2074 to register. The cost of classes is $21.



• Region V Basketball in Ketchikan - Tickets for the Region V Basketball Tournament held March 4-8 in Ketchikan are now on sale at the Juneau-Douglas High School Activities Office. Reserved balcony guaranteed seating and adult/student bleacher seating is available. Passes must be reserved by Feb. 12. Info: 523-1607 or 523-1614.

• Juneau Cheer Club offers elite snow removal - As long as there is snow, the Juneau Cheer Club will offer elite snow removal anywhere in Juneau from 8 a.m. to 7 p.m. on weekends and 4 to 7 p.m. on weekdays. These hard-working young athletes are trying to raise money for uniforms and competition travel. Info: Monica Casipit, 790-3099.

• Classic Women's Soccer - Friday nights 6-7:30 pm beginning January 9th. 14 games. Cost $49. Bring a light and dark shirt. Coed Masters Soccer will be 7:30-9 p.m. Fridays beginning Jan. 9. There will be 14 games. Cost is $49. Male players must be over 30 years of age. Bring a light and dark shirt. Open soccer is 9-10 p.m. Tuesday nights, which began Jan. 6. Cost is $4. New this winter is Competitive Coed Soccer, held 6-8 p.m. Saturday nights, beginning Jan. 10. There will be eight games, and games may be added if enough players register to cover costs. Cost $35. • Tornados Youth Wrestling Club registration - Registration for Tornados' wrestling, for boys and girls age 5-18 interested in learning wrestling skills, is now through March 15. Practice for age 5-18 will begin Jan. 12. Adult wrestlers and coaches are welcome and encouraged to participate. Practices will be 6:15-7:15 p.m. Monday and Wednesday for ages 5-12, and 7:15-8:30 p.m. for older wrestlers. • Youth referees needed - Juneau Parks and Recreation is looking for referees for the upcoming youth basketball season. If you have any knowledge of the game of basketball, or have any experience playing or reffing, we would love to have your help. You will get paid for each game you referee. • Adult soccer - The Capital City Soccer League is offering adult soccer at the Dimond Park Fieldhouse. Classic Women League for beginning players is from 6-7:30 p.m. Friday nights. Cost is $35. Games played October-December. Masters Co-ed League for men over 30 and skilled women players is 7:30-9 p.m. Friday nights. Cost is $35. Games played October-December. • Court rentals - Community Schools has court rentals available from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. on Saturdays at Dzantik'i Heeni Middle School. Cost is $30 per hour, per court. To reserve time, call 780-2075.

• Juneau Skating Club - The Juneau Skating Club's third session of the year began Jan. 16. Classes meet one time per week for six weeks. Group lessons meet either Friday nights, 6:30-7:30 p.m., or Saturday mornings, 11:45 a.m.-12:45 p.m. Hockey skills classes started Jan. 18 at 10:30 a.m. Registration forms and other information are available at or at the rink. • Mount Jumbo Gym pre-school open gym - Children must be accompanied and supervised by an adult, at a maximum ratio of four children to one adult. Play equipment and tumbling mats available. • Ultimate Frisbee Players of Southeast Alaska - The Ultimate Frisbee Players of Southeast Alaska will hold league play will take place 7-9 p.m. Wednesdays and Sundays at Adair-Kennedy Memorial Field. • Dzantik'i Heeni Middle School court rentals - Community Schools has court rental times available, starting at 9 a.m., on Saturdays at Dzantik'i Heeni Middle School. Cost is $20 per hour, per court, which must be paid at the time of rental. Info: 780-2075.
