We couldn’t have done it without Coeur

The Juneau Douglas High School State Champion National Ocean Sciences Bowl teams would like to thank our main sponsor, Coeur Alaska. The generous contributions Coeur makes annually to our NOSB program helps fund team travel to Seward for the state competition and more importantly will go towards travel expenses to Galveston, Texas, for the National Competition. All of the Juneau NOSB teams put forth a great deal of hard work and dedication, and without the charitable donations from sponsors like Coeur, the teams would not be able to travel to Seward and then down to Texas where they will represent all of Alaska. Thank you again to Coeur and all our other sponsors.

What is it like in your capital city?

Editor’s note: The following is a letter received from a student who is working on a research project about Alaska’s capital city. Reader responses can be mailed directly to the student’s school at the following address: Rutgers Preparatory School c/o Miss Kazal 1345 Easton Ave., Somerset, NJ 0887.

I am a fourth-grade student at Rutgers Preparatory School in Somerset, N.J. Our class is learning about the capitals of the United States. I would like to learn what it is like to live in Juneau. If any of your readers would like to write a letter to me telling me what it is like to live in the city of Juneau proper, it would help me understand more about the capital of Alaska. Thanks for your help with my project.

Thanks for being there

Robert Bennett and the family of Wilma Bennett would like to thank everyone for their support throughout her illness and after her passing on Jan. 29, 2011. A great big “thank you” goes out to Hospice and Home Care of Juneau, Dr. Benjamin and the other SEARHC staff, the Bartlett Critical Care Unit, Pastor Green and the Glacier Valley Church of God congregation and all of our friends and neighbors who stopped by to say a caring word, donate money or bring food. We appreciate the love that was shown to our family during this difficult time. God bless you.

Robert Bennett
