February is National Black History Month.¿ In celebration of this occasion, the Black Awareness Association cordially invites the community to attend its Annual Black History Month Soul Food and Scholarship fundraiser. ¿This annual event is the association’s biggest event of the year. Proceeds go toward scholarships for students aspiring to reach higher in their educational career and to help bring other cultural events to the community. ¿
The celebration is scheduled to begin at 5 p.m. on Feb. 26 at the Tlingit & Haida Community Center at 3235 Hospital Drive. The event will highlight a traditional soul food meal which will include barbecue ribs, fried catfish, fried chicken, collard greens, sweet potatoes, black-eyed peas, macaroni and cheese, potato salad, sweet potato pie, peach cobbler and beverages. Back by popular demand, entertainment for the evening is Motown Karaoke.
Advance tickets are encouraged from Hearthside Books and any Black Awareness Association member.¿Adult admission is $22, students including UAS with ID are $12 and children aged 5 and under are free.
