Juneau resident Costa Joseph Alton Sr., 67, died Feb. 10, 2002, at Bartlett Regional Hospital in Juneau.
He was born Aug. 26, 1934, in Detroit, Mich,. and graduated from Wayne State University with a degree in civil engineering. He joined the U.S. Coast Guard and served as an officer for the next 20 years. He retired at the rank of commander. He met his wife, Natalie Dapcevich, in Juneau.
After being stationed in various places in the states, he came back to Juneau in 1977. He worked for the state Department of Transportation in bridge design and owned a small business.
He was preceded in death by his father Harry.
He is survived by his wife Natalie; sons Costa Jr., Chris, Craig, Cliff and his wife Molly; mother Katherine; brother John and his wife Shirley, Mich., and their children Mark, Juneau, and Linda and Leif, Michigan, and their families; and the Dapcevich family.
A funeral mass was held at 7 p.m., Feb. 14, 2002, at the Cathedral of the Nativity. A reception followed at St. Ann's Hall.
