Dogs should always be on a leash at glacier

I don't think any dog should be off a leash at the Mendenhall Glacier. I have a 14-month-old German shepherd, and I never have her off the leash. I have a 20-foot-long line on her at all times. I also have a "come command" to have her come to me whenever I call her. But she is never more than 20 feet away from me, and that's the way it should be out there.

Sound off on the important issues at

I see way too many dogs off leash at the glacier. I say that it's the owner's responsibility to keep control of his or her own dog, whether it's a big dog or a small dog.

If owners have their dogs off leash and the owners let the dog play with Romeo, then it's the owners' fault if anything happens.

I let my German Shepherd look at Romeo, but I never let her play with him. For one, Romeo is a wild wolf; I never know what he will do, so I don't take that chance.

I feel sorry for Romeo that he doesn't have any other wolves around, but I am not going to let my dog play with Romeo and take a chance on something happening to my dog.
