On Jan. 17 and 24, members of the Juneau Hispanic community did what they do so well - prepare good food and invite their friends. This time, their effort was to help the people of Haiti.
Juneauites learning about the fundraiser from friends, on the radio, from the Empire or in their churches flocked to El Zarape to support the ambitious local effort which raised $4,836 for Haiti relief. All the money was donated to Catholic Relief Services.
Good food and good fellowship for a good cause were all part of this courageous, compassionate project of Hispanics in Juneau.
I thank the hard working, determined, generous sponsors and everyone who attended, making the fundraiser so successful.
