Shell to hold hearings on Beaufort plans

Posted: Sunday, February 14, 2010

ANCHORAGE - Public hearings will be held on Shell oil company's plan to explore for oil and gas in the Beaufort Sea.

The federal Environmental Protection Agency is reviewing a Clean Air Act permit application by the company so it can operate a drill ship and associated vessels. The proposal is subject to review because the drill ship operations would be a major source of air pollution.

Public hearings will be held beginning next Tuesday in Kaktovik, with a meeting in Nuiqsut the next day and one in Barrow on Thursday.
