Falcon's Tingley likes to get teammates involved

TMHS point guard says older sister helped improve game, attitude

Posted: Monday, February 14, 2011

Thunder Mountain sophomore guard, Eyerus Tingley is a pass-first point guard.

“I like to share the ball a lot”, she said. “I try to get everybody involved and pass around the ball so everybody has an opportunity to get to the basket.”

The 5-foot-4-inch 10th grader and Ethiopia native leads the team in assists with 2.8 per game and is coming off the program’s first win over conference foe Ketchikan, 39-36, during a game in which she hit a pair of clutch free throws with 25 seconds left to help give her team the win. She said her favorite classes are biology and American history, and when she’s not playing basketball for Thunder Mountain she’s either shooting around at the Alaska Club or hanging out with friends.

What are your academic interests?

“I like the labs we do in biology, but I also like American history.”

Talk about the advantages and disadvantages of having your older sister, Mahlet as a competitor?

“It’s kind of hard sometimes because people compare me to her, and we’re really different people. I look up to her because she’s my older sister and she’s really good, and I think she’s helped me a lot as a player to improve my attitude on the court. She’s helped me not to get too frustrated at my teammates and she helps me push myself and keeps me from giving up when maybe I want to.”

What do you think has been key in the improvement of this year’s Falcons team from last year’s?

“I think we work more as a team and we just play way better together. Last year, it was a lot of people’s first year playing, so, just getting another year of experience has helped.”
