ANCHORAGE - A 23-year-old man who stabbed an Anchorage gas station attendant five times was sentenced to 13 years in prison.

Richard Martin was convicted of assault in 2002 and living at a halfway house one year ago when he was allowed a temporary release. Prosecutors said he walked into a gas station in Midtown Anchorage, and without a word, stabbed Donald Stromberg twice in the chest with a large knife. Stromberg grabbed Martin and held him against the wall but Martin stabbed him three more times.

Martin pleaded guilty to assault and unlawful evasion. He was sentenced to 17 years in prison with four suspended and 10 years of probation.
