KETCHIKAN - Bail has been set at $100,000 for a 47-year-old Ketchikan man accused of stabbing a woman in an apartment.

Andrew N. Smith was indicted Thursday and arraigned Friday on charges of attempted murder and assault, plus misdemeanor charges of violating a protection order and violating conditions of release.

He's accused of stabbing a woman repeatedly in the chest Feb. 6, his birthday.

Ketchikan Police Chief Ed Talik says the victim has been released from Ketchikan General Hospital and was one of the witnesses listed on the indictment record.

Police say she was stabbed in her own apartment. They came to her aid after taking a call of a woman found bleeding in the lobby of the Mary Frances apartment building.

Smith was arrested on a street about 90 minutes later.
