A trial date of March 7 was set in Juneau Superior Court Tuesday by Judge Philip Pallenberg for a man who faces two charges of first-degree assault in connection with the beating of a 2-year-old girl.
Nicholas Kokotovich III, 24, was arrested June 11 and charged in connection with the May 13 beating of his girlfriend Adrienne Hosiner’s 2-year-old daughter.
Kokotovich had initially called his girlfriend at work and said the girl had fallen off the bed, hit her head, and was not breathing correctly. Together they brought the girl to Bartlett Regional Hospital. The girl had severe injuries to the face, head, and other parts of her body and hospital staff alerted police.
The girl was flown to Harbor View Medical Center in Seattle with life-threatening injuries. Hosiner and her child recently checked out of Seattle’s Children’s Hospital and the girl is making a slow recovery.
Hosiner has said Kokotovich admitted to leaving Stone alone so he could get high on Oxycontin, a powerful pain medication. Hosiner also has said Kokotovich told her he was angry when he returned because the little girl said the word “no” repeatedly.
Kokotovich allegedly struck the girl and then hit her again because she would not stop crying, Hosiner has said.
