MARQUETTE, Mich. - Four-time Iditarod champion Doug Swingley won the U.P. 200 Sled Dog Championship, a race that began Friday and was hampered by snow.
Swingley, of Lincoln, Mont., finished Sunday, 1 hour, 11 minutes ahead of Frank Holmberg. It was the first time Swingley participated in the 12-dog event.
Frank Teasley was third and Swingley's wife, Melanie Shirilla, was fourth.
Fifteen of the 29 teams finished the race. The course was about 244 miles and organizers changed the route because of snow in the southern portion of the trail.
