Roughhouse Friday boxing - The monthly show called "My Bloody Valentine" has been rescheduled from Feb. 14 to Feb. 21 due to problems with hall rental. Doors open at 6 p.m. with bouts starting at 7:30 p.m. at Alaska Native Brotherhood Hall. The feature bout pits Gabe "Steel" Duckworth of Ketchikan against Matt "The Goat" Coppick of Sitka in a middleweight fight. Tickets are $20 for general admission and $30 ringside and they are available at ANB Hall or Marlintini's Lounge. Treadwell Ice Arena - Official Grand Opening: Join the Juneau Department of Parks and Recreation and the Douglas Fourth of July Committee welcome people to the opening for the first community ice rink in town, at Savikko Park in Douglas. Festivities open with an exhibition hockey game with local teams at 9:30 a.m., the opening ceremony at 11 a.m., a figure skating exhibition by the Anchorage Figure Skating Association, a free skate (for the first 250 people) at 12:30 p.m., a youth hockey exhibition game with teams from the Whitehorse (Yukon Territory) Youth Hockey League at 2 p.m. and another free skate (for the first 250 people) at 3:30 p.m. There are a limited number of hockey and figure skates available for rent at $2 a pair. Treadwell Ice Arena special youth only open skate - A special youth only open skate takes place from 4:15-6 p.m. on Tuesday, Feb. 18, at the new Treadwell Ice Arena. Skating will take place from 4:15-5 p.m. and at 5:15-6 p.m., with a 15 minute break for ice resurfacing (no skaters allowed on the ice). This event is open to youth only, ages 18-younger. Gastineau Channel Little League online registration - Online registration will be open through Sunday, Feb. 16, for early registration, through March 10 for regular registration and late registration after that at the Gastineau Channel Little League's Web site, http://www.juneau.com/littleleague/. The secure Web site went live this month and parents can now use it to pay for their children's registration by credit card. Regular registration will take place at the Nugget Mall from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Saturdays and noon to 4 p.m. on Sundays during the weekends of Feb. 15-16, 22-23 and March 1-2. Juneau-Douglas High School indoor soccer mini-camp - The sixth annual JDHS indoor soccer mini-camp takes place on Monday, Feb. 17, at the Dzantik'i Heeni Middle School gym. The camp is open for young soccer players ages 5-12 and costs $25. Registration for ages 5-8 is at 8:45 a.m., with the clinic from 9 a.m. to noon. Registration for ages 5-12 is at 12:45 p.m., with a session from 1-4 p.m. Proceeds from the camp go toward funding the 2003 Juneau-Douglas High School soccer season. Juneau Tornadoes youth wrestling club registration - Meet from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Monday, Feb. 17, and on Saturday, Feb. 22, at the Gottschalks end of the Mendenhall Mall. The club is open to young athletes ages 5-18 interested in learning wrestling skills (male and female wrestlers welcomed). Juneau Soccer Club annual social and auction - Meet from 5-8 p.m. on Saturday, Feb. 22, at the Tlingit-Haida Center in Salmon Creek for a Hawaiian luau dinner and entertainment. Proceeds from the dinner will help send Juneau's three state championship teams to the U.S. Youth Soccer Western Regional Championships in Honolulu in Juneau. Water Safety Instructor (WSI) course organizational meeting - Meet at 6 p.m. on Thursday, Feb. 23, at the Augustus G. Brown Swimming Pool. This course is required for anyone wanting to teach swimming lessons. To participate, swimmers must be at least 17 years old and able to swim 50 yards each of front crawlstroke (freestyle in competitive swimming), back crawlstroke (backstroke), sidestroke, breaststroke and elementary backstroke, and 10 yards of butterfly. 4-H Nordic Ski Club - The fifth year of this club for youth and adult skiers will meet every Sunday afternoon through March 16 at various locations TBA with club leaders Odin Brudie and Frankie Pillifant ($6 membership fee). The club has a limited number of pairs of classic and skating ski sets for rent for $20 for the entire winter season. Club leaders will help parents size skis for their children. The club only rents youth skis, adults must provide their own. If families couldn't attend the Dec. 14 registration meeting, they should call the 4-H office and enroll by phone.
