Happy hour at the Alaska State Capitol

Letter to the editor

Posted: Thursday, February 17, 2005

After growing dissatisfied with the Juneau bar scene, I was happy to hear I can be hanging out at the Capitol drinking during poker night. Norm Rokeberg, you are the Republican Par-tay! What are you guys doing Thursday?

Sure, there are thousands of state workers who "work extraordinarily long hours for extraordinary lengths of time." And yes, it's common sense that a teacher or social service worker would be sent packing if they had desk-top martini hour. But they are not legislators, are they? Suckers! You set the rules at the Capitol? Nice! Just keep the beer flowing and if somebody doesn't like it, they can keep their mouth shut.
