FAIRBANKS - A former basketball player with the University of Alaska Fairbanks was convicted on drug charges.
Christopher Smith, 26, was found guilty by a Fairbanks jury Friday of conspiracy and possession of methamphetamine with the intent to distribute.
Defense attorney Ken Covell said Smith likely will appeal the verdict.
Smith, who played for UAF from 2002 through 2005, maintains his innocence.
