ANCHORAGE - Sen. Mark Begich will chair two hearings this week to address issues facing Alaska military veterans.
The general public will not testify. Instead, invited veterans and advocates are on the agenda.
Begich is a member of the Senate Veterans Affairs Committee. He will join Veterans Administration and Department of Labor officials for the hearings.
Begich said the purpose is to learn about job opportunities, health care access and services to support returning veterans.
A hearing from 10:30 to noon Tuesday is set for Anchorage's Loussac Library.
A second hearing is scheduled for 1 p.m. today at the Fairbanks North Star Borough Assembly chambers.
There are more than 75,000 veterans living in Alaska, the highest per capita in the country.
