NORTH POLE - The North Pole City Council will take up the issue of creating a new Board of Ethics on Tuesday.
The council delayed any changes in procedures for ethics complaints Monday after Mayor Doug Isaacson called for more debate. The Fairbanks Daily News-Miner reports the council will hold a work session Tuesday and vote at its March 1 meeting.
Councilman Jeff Jacobson proposes eliminating the city council's role in the ethics complaint screening process, establishing a standing Board of Ethics, and extending the statute of limitations for unethical conduct to two years.
One of the questions Isaacson raised was about the role of the city clerk. The mayor says the city attorney is better suited for legal determinations and jurisdiction decisions.
