JUNEAU - Alaska state lawmakers have approved spending up to $300,000 for additional office space in downtown Juneau.
The Legislative Council's action Thursday allows the Legislative Affairs Agency to negotiate for the purchase of the Christian Science Church, which is across Main Street from the Capitol.
The city's property database says the building constructed in 1930 is currently valued at nearly $169,500. The building and 2,500-square-foot property together are valued at $295,000. Minimum lot size in the area is 5,000 square feet.
The council manages the daily business of the Legislature. This action does not require additional approval.
Last year, the former Scottish Rite Temple was converted to additional space for legislative staff. It's connected to the Capitol by a skywalk.
