Juneau Shotokan Karate Club member Ira Rosen recently earned the rank of Sho Dan, first-degree black belt in Shotokan Karate. Rosen, 54, has studied martial arts for a decade and has been a member of the Juneau club for five years. Rosen also is a national record holder and national champion in the age 50-54 division's 123-pound weight class of the USA Powerlifting organization.
