JUNEAU - The state's Joint Armed Services Committee has selected a day when more than 170 fallen Alaskan soldiers will be honored in an invitation only ceremony.
That date is May 23.
A posthumous declaration of honor goes to Alaskan veterans or veterans deployed while serving in Alaska who were killed in action during all previous or current wars.
House Rep. Nancy Dahlstrom, an Eagle River Republican, says the state owes the veterans a "debt of gratitude."
Sen. Bill Wielechowski, an Anchorage Democrat, says the state should be proud of the sacrifice the men and women have made during service.
The ceremony will be held at the Alaska Center for the Performing Arts Discovery Theater in Anchorage.
