The Alaska Department of Fish and Game has announced the season lengths for Tanner and golden king crab fisheries.
The Tanner’s core fishing areas will close at noon on Feb. 25. The non-core areas will close at noon on March 2.
Both fisheries opened the season at noon Friday. This gives the core Tanner crabbing a 7-day season and a 12-day season for non-core.
The season length for golden king crabs in core and non-core areas will be determined by how quickly harvest guideline levels are filled. Fish and Game Shellfish Manager Project Leader Joe Stratman said some areas may close in a week while others will be open a few months, depending on the harvest levels.
