A weekend workshop for string musicians of all levels and ages will be offered March 9 and 10. Registration is open now for master classes, coaching sessions and private lessons, sponsored by Juneau Jazz and Classics.
Kathleen Butler-Hopkins, a professor of music at the University of Alaska Fairbanks and the concertmaster of the Fairbanks Symphony, will lead the weekend classes for violinists, cellists and string players. Workshops include a class for young beginners, a class in ensemble playing, and private lessons. Classes range from $10 to $15, and lessons are $30 to $60.
The workshop will culminate in a free public recital. All classes will be in the Hendrickson Building at the University of Alaska Southeast. Register by contacting Juneau Jazz and Classics at 463-3378 by March 1.
