Christa A. Brooks, 67, died at home on Feb. 14, 2004, following a long struggle with lymphoma.
She had lived since 1972 in Juneau, where she touched the lives of many people as a family physician until onset of her illness five years ago, her family said.
She was born in Germany, where she received her initial medical training. She later completed her family practice residency at the University of North Dakota hospital at Fargo.
"Among the pleasures of her life were the many close friendships developed with Juneauites, and to share with them the wondrously beautiful wilderness of southeastern Alaska," her family said. "She loved all animals, including stray cats, but was especially devoted to her dog companions. Although typically generous, she coveted the secret location of productive nagoon berry patches, the source of delectable jelly that she was happy to share."
She is survived by her husband Jim, daughter Beatrice, and stepson Lewis. A celebration of life gathering will be held at a later time.
