Sloss and Lear combine forces to win Alfalfa II

Brudie and Dugan win adult division

The youth team of Jared Lear and Marlena Sloss captured the Alfalfa II Cross Country Ski Race on Saturday at Eaglecrest Ski Area.

Lear and Sloss beat four other teams for the youth title while Odin Brudie and Darcy Dugan joined forces to win the adult event.

The race featured preliminary, semifinal and final heats as two randomly selected racers joined forces in the relay race.

Skiers started with a 600-meter sprint loop featuring turns, drops and climbs.

In the youth event, Charley Mumford and Spencer Holt claimed second place while Kurt Wade and Claire Mumford finished third. Claire Mumford and Logan Holt took fourth place and Chatham Holt and Elsa Mumford captured fifth.

Amy Volz and Guy Thibodeau placed second in the adult competition, ahead of third place Bart Watson and Greg Patz.

The team of Jeff Sloss and Rafe Mumford finished fourth, Dominic Bradford and Chatham Holt took fifth, Merry Ellefson and Kerry Lear tied with Dan Fremgen and Logan Holt for sixth place honors while Sam Skaggs and Frankie Pillifant finished eighth.

The Juneau Nordic Ski Club and the 4H Cross Country ski club hosted the relay races.
