JUNEAU - A brief 20-minute power outage Saturday morning in the Mendenhall Valley was reportedly caused by an eagle, according to an eyewitness.
The eyewitness told Alaska Electric Light and Power Co. officials that an eagle carrying garbage flew near a transmission line in the Lemon Creek area. The garbage caused a short that forced open a breaker along the transmission line.
The outage started at about 10:20 a.m. Power was completely restored at about 10:40 a.m. About 8,000 of the utility company's 15,000 customers were affected.
