Student Artist in the Spotlight: Rachelle Sloss

Age: 18.

Sound off on the important issues at

Grade: 12th.

School: Juneau-Douglas High School.

Experience: 13 years.

Reason: "Dance is my art. I have always loved dancing. ... As a child, I took dance classes from Juneau Dance Unlimited. I love dancing with the high school dance team. I love performing at basketball games and at our season show."

All in the family: "My younger sister also enjoys dancing and takes classes at JRC."

Other interests: "I also enjoy painting and ceramics. I like Impressionist and landscape paintings. I like any type of music that I can dance too, especially Latin music."

Future plans: "I hope to continue dancing on a college dance team next year. After college, I'll continue dancing for recreation and fun."

Her coach, Christa Baxter, says: "Rachelle Sloss is an officer and four-year member of the Juneau-Douglas High School Dance Team. She has displayed outstanding work ethic not only in dance team but in every area of her life. To excel in dance it requires extremely hard work. Rachelle accomplishes this with a positive attitude and a contagious smile. Her enthusiasm and encouragement have made her an accomplished dancer and exceptional leader. Rachelle is an excellent role model for young citizens."
